The Roomba Max 875 Combo is worth shortlisting for a mixed-floor home that wants automated roller-mop care, but the phrase “up to 90 days hands-free” needs a boundary. iRobot ties that maximum to debris emptying into the dock bag. The owner still refills clean water, empties and rinses water tanks, replenishes compatible solution, cleans brushes and charging contacts, and replaces wear parts.

That distinction drives this review. The Max 875 has a more ambitious cleaning path than older Roombas: a 140°F published onboard heat stage, a roller mop, a physical carpet shield, and a dock that washes the roller at 176°F and dries it with 131°F air. Those are three different processes, not one continuous 176°F floor-cleaning claim.

Buy it when hard floors genuinely need frequent mopping, rugs make wet-roller separation important, and a water-handling dock will receive regular care. Wait or skip it when independent cleaning evidence matters more than launch specifications, the dock cannot sit where tanks can be serviced easily, or “hands-free” means no recurring water, brush, filter, or roller work to you.

What the AutoWash Dock actually automates

The dock takes over several repetitive transfers and wash steps:

The official launch list connects “up to 90 days” to self-emptying into the carbon AllergenLock debris bag. Vacuum Wars reached the same narrower reading in its independent launch analysis , noting that the interval is debris storage and that actual bag life depends on debris volume and type.

Ninety days is about 12.9 weeks. Even at that maximum, it does not suspend water-tank hygiene or turn the replacement interval into a universal calendar. A pet home collecting hair, a kitchen generating crumbs, and a lightly used apartment will load the bag differently. Mopping frequency changes clean-water and dirty-water work independently of dry-debris volume.

Read the headline this way: the dock may reduce how often you empty dry debris, while water and wear-part maintenance continue on their own schedules.

Four marketing multipliers, four narrow baselines

The Max 875 launch uses several large multipliers. They only make sense beside their stated comparison.

This does not make the mechanisms irrelevant. SealForce lowers a skirt to concentrate airflow at carpet, ThermaMist adds heated pretreatment, and DriLift raises and shields the wet roller around detected carpet. Those are meaningful design changes. The multipliers still cannot replace independent pickup, stain, navigation, and carpet-moisture measurements.

What remains supported is that the PowerSpin Max roller rotates at a published 300 RPM and is designed to press against the floor; neither number proves cleaning performance in a particular home.
